Pantone Reveals 2012 Color of the Year

For the ability of this spirited reddish orange to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward, Pantone chose PANTONE 17-1463 Tangerine Tango as the color of the year for 2012.

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, the color marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Over the past several years, orange has grown in popularity and acceptance among designers and consumers alike.

A provocative attention-getter, Tangerine Tango is especially appealing in men’s and women’s fashion, but it also enters the act in cosmetics. A limited edition collection featuring a variety of products including eye shadow, lipstick, lip gloss, nail polish and accessories will be available in Sephora Americas beginning March 2012.

This pop of color will take up residence in patterned home accessories too – from pillows, bedspreads and tabletop accessories to appliances, personal electronics and wall paint.

Tangerine Tango products are available from Chronicle Books (creator of Pantone paperback journals and publisher of “Pantone: The Twentieth Century in Color”), Dessy (a leading manufacturer of bridesmaid, social-occasion and flower-girl dresses), MyColor inspired by Pantone (a spirited new collection of grab-and-go paints), PANTONE PAINTS (Pantone’s line of superior-quality, eco-friendly paint), Rickshaw of San Francisco (lightweight and stylish messenger bag created especially for Pantone) and W2 (creator of the iconic PANTONE Chip mug).
