Digital Color Concepts (DCC) is back with another avant-garde look at New York City. Collaborator OTTO NY, along with a cast of photographers and street artists, celebrate the power of visual communication in a revealing tour of the city after dark.

Printed entirely on McCoy Matte (80 lb. text and 80 lb. cover), the journey’s heavy ink coverage (4-color process, four spot colors, gloss UV coating, and soft touch aqueous) visually and tactilely transports us, pupils dilating, to the darkness of burlesque houses and grappling dens.

From skateboarders to pigeon keepers, each unconventional vignette is designed using offbeat techniques: short fold-in pages, gatefolds, and a page that’s hand folded to a sharp point. Three mini booklets that serve as photographic bios are glued onto one page. Some photos are placed off center. Folios are located on the face edge of certain pages, on the spine side of other pages. The effect really makes us conscious of just how otherworldly “the other New York” is.

The piece is a fascinating excursion offering design and print tidbits to discover at every corner … keeping you on guard for the next revelation. And there you are – a wrong turn in the Fulton Fish Market lands you in the room where men are gutting the day’s catch.
