Answer: Layer order!
Ink percentage and paper shade absolutely matter, which is why this question is a little sneaky. But in this case, the change comes from where the metallic ink sits.
When it is placed underneath CMYK, it can create a shimmering color effect. When it goes over CMYK, it acts more like a highlight.
So before you simply ask for “silver” or “gold,” ask how it will be layered. That one decision can change the whole personality of your piece!
