Fama Poster

610-fama-1

The design highlights of this piece? “Its Swissness. Annnd (hey “Portlandia” fans) we put a bird on it.

– Reid Selisker, Executive Office Manager

When it comes to employee recognition, often the best you can hope for is a gift card and a photo of yourself in the lobby flashing a “shoot me” look in your eyes above a “please don’t fire me” smile. Not so at Minneapolis design studio Fame*. Each year they celebrate an individual with the Fama Award (named after the Roman goddess of fame), which includes a custom-made poster reflecting the winner’s personality.

In this example vice president and creative director Yves Roux got the deluxe treatment. His 19”-x-25” print features “a fun spin on the European cuckoo clock, inspired by [his] Swiss heritage and quirky personality, as well as his role as ‘around the clock creative,’ ”
 Selisker explains.

Some 90 posters were silk screened by hand by Steady Print Shop in Minneapolis on French Paper Co. Speckletone Madero Beach 100 lb. Cover, [Get Swatchbook] signed, hand numbered, and given to members of the Fame* family who’ve collected them over the years. That uncoated, recycled sheet with its flecks and shives give the screen-printed piece a distinctly weathered, rugged look.

Says Selisker, the stock also provides “a great tactile, organic feel that makes us paper geeks deliriously happy.”
