The Hockaday School Promo Piece

Remember school? Those No. 2 pencils and Trapper Keepers … bells to beat and friends to meet … grades to make and buses to catch. SWOON [the studio] gets high marks from us for this promotional piece for The Hockaday School. The design uses scratch-off coating to create ingenious fun.

Inspired by the 100th anniversary of this all-girls school, the design team spec’d 130 lb. McCoy Silk Cover for a prestigious feel. A bright and contemporary color palette of lively green and blue with calming gray appeals to any age.

An energetic pattern is rendered on the outside of the roll-fold brochure with a subtle but shiny spot UV coating. Holographic foil brings the cover headline and flower sticker to girlish life.

A pop-quiz game on the inside of the piece gets students and parents involved in an unexpected way. Answers are revealed underneath circles of scratch-off UV coating.

And you can’t come to school without a pencil, which the designers thoughtfully included (customized with the school name of course).
