The Joy of Hate Mail

Mr. Bingo's Hate MailIt happened so fast. On Nov. 3rd, while many of us were rubbing the sleep from our eyes and facing the prospect of yet another Monday, an obscure artist across the pond tweeted the following four words, and set his fan base fluttering: “Hate Mail is open…” The artist, rejoicing in the name Mr. Bingo, charges people £50 (about $80) plus postage for a one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn postcard boasting an insulting thought or phrase…directed at the recipient.

“I love post and I’m worried that people don’t get enough ‘fun’ post these days,” he explains on his website. “Especially postcards….So you get an original signed drawing, the postman get’s a laugh and the world get’s a little bit happier.”

By the end of the day Monday, he announced via Twitter that he wouldn’t be taking any more “Hate Mail” orders this time around, but he might be doing something similar next year for those of us outside the UK. In the meantime, those who’d like to sample his work can pick up a copy of his book, “Hate Mail.”
