Shelf Porn: New Folio Editions

folio_125While London’s 67-year-old Folio Society has always brought out handsome editions of classic literature, their latest crop of modern classics is a veritable show-reel for premium book production. Though the printing and finishing techniques aren’t groundbreaking, the end results are simultaneously modern and timeless.

The window in the slipcase for Frederick Forsyth’s The Day of the Jackal is a particularly nice touch; the clever balance of text and illustration within makes us long for the illustrated magazine fiction of the 1960s.

Next month, The Folio Society is slated to bring out an entire letterpress Shakespeare series to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the birth of the Bard.
