Family Memory Kit

337-familyvideobox-1

This project, a memory sharing and collecting kit, succeeds in its very important goal: to connect the people in one particular family and strengthen their relationships – a great idea in this electronic age.

But even more striking to me is how the concept transcends its intended purpose (a hallmark of any great design) in a way that could inspire a variety of human conversations, from company team-building sessions to wedding rehearsal dinners.

A box was sent with a voice recorder, note pad, questions to prompt responses, and instructions on how to do everything. The resulting photos, videos and responses were collected into a digital scrapbook and presented at the family reunion.

The designers also show just how interesting it can be combining one color and lots of different paper (Astrobrights to gloss-coated cover to glassine sleeves). This makes the kit feel handcrafted and so approachable.

Creativity was encouraged, and all means of communication were included – from the notebook for doodlers and writers, to the voice recorder for those who’d rather tell a good tale; from the envelopes for sharing photos to the thumb drives for digital video downloads. They all must have had a great time with this piece. I know I did.

Family Memory Kit was featured as a Paper Inspiration.
