Our December holidays come alive with a light that shines through the otherwise quiet month that gives us the longest night of the year. The design team at Carlson Craft used specialty substrates, diecutting and laser cutting to portray this beautiful contrast on their 2014 holiday card.
Sparkling gold glitter paper, outlined with diecut curves, serves as the base of this card. Luxurious black velvet paper gets a matching diecut outline along with a flowing laser-cut script and laser-cut circles. The voids created by the laser allow the glitter to show through from underneath for a deeply dimensional effect.
Even more light is reflected from the black velvet with silver foil-stamped circles and type. Adding a subtler gloss and another layer of texture, a black satin ribbon is threaded through a hole at the top of the card turning the piece into a keepsake ornament.
About the PaperSpecs Gallery
We’ve created a curated space where design, paper and printing excellence are celebrated and made very visible – for those who love the medium of paper. For those who want a little inspiration. For those who may be your next clients.
What’s in it for you?
As well as receiving exposure for your work (and the admiration of your peers), a feature video about your project might appear on the PaperSpecs website.

Those selected to appear in the PaperSpecs Gallery will be notified by e-mail. Not all entries will be selected for inclusion. We’re looking for those printed pieces that are truly inspirational in terms of creative and appropriate use of paper, and excellence in design and printing.
We can’t wait to see what you’re capable of!
