Verso Buys NewPage for $1.4 Billion

newpagePresumably Verso Paper Corp. didn’t get what it wanted for Christmas, instead announcing Jan. 6th that it is picking up NewPage Holdings for a cool $1.4 billion. After the deal closes (which is expected to happen in the second half of 2014), the combined coated-paper company will enjoy sales of about $4.5 billion and run 11 manufacturing plants in six states.
