“You don’t have to be crazy (about print) to work here, but it helps.” This seems to be the unofficial motto of Madrid branding/design agency Locco Committee if their business cards are any indication. And crazy about foil stamping? Definitely!
Screen printed by El Calotipo on a whopping 700 gsm Legion Paper Colorplan Ebony Black [Get Swatchbook] – who needs duplexing, right? – these beauties feel less like business cards than tiny works of art which, when you think about it, they very much are. Catch that gorgeous golden foil in just the right light and you’d swear you had some pirate treasure glimmering in your hand.
And as you can see, there are quite a few little Easter eggs in this design to reward repeat examinations: the phrase “si cree lo creas” at the bottom (“if you believe it, believe it”), skulls with keyholes for noses, too cool for school mice, and one little detail that might be more at home at a stag do than on a business card, but hey – it’s the continent.
Madness clearly runs in the Locco Committee family as we found ourselves in quite a tizzy over the business card for parent company Locco Starr Group, which played with vintage alcoholic beverage labeling and blind embossing. We can but hope that this madness only spreads in the years to come.
