“Post Haste” Reflects on Digital Age

Another great Kickstarter project asks the question, “When was the last time you got a handwritten letter in the mail?”

In response to the proposed closure of 3,700 post offices and the layoffs to follow, Elizabeth Ribera invited eight Bay Area artists to use the U.S. Postal Service as an analogy for decaying public institutions and our relationship to civil engagement in a digital age.

The exhibition, called Post Haste, reflects on how the digital age is radically changing our public institutions. It will include new media, mixed media, sculpture and participatory works. Contributions range from portraits of stamp collectors to a live transcription service for gallery visitors.

Post Haste will be open to the public at the MacArthur B Arthur Gallery in Oakland, CA, from May 4 – 28, 2012 and is curated by Jayna Swartzman. Lots more info on the project and participating artists can be found at Kickstarter.

If you get a chance to attend, let us know what you thought of the exhibit.
