Mohawk Expands Digital Line

mohawk_125Never ones to coast on past accomplishments, Mohawk has thrown its arms around the digital print market once more with a forthcoming major expansion of its digital substrate offerings, to be unveiled at DSCOOP 9 March 6-8 in Orlando. Although details are sketchy at the moment, one of the new products will be Mohawk Synthetic Paper with i-Tone.

For those who can’t tell their iPads from their i-Tones (and there are many of us), the “proprietary i-Tone surface chemistry on Mohawk papers is highly regarded for its outstanding ink adhesion, and now that same technology will be available for the first time on a Mohawk synthetic substrate.” (Samples of same will be available at the Mohawk DSCOOP 9 booth #401.)

Again we give Mohawk the floor:

“Mohawk Synthetic Paper with i-Tone eliminates the need for laminating, and delivers vibrant print quality with unsurpassed ink adhesion. It’s a high performance synthetic with the look and soft feel of paper. It is extremely durable, waterproof, tear resistant, and is recyclable as a #5 polypropylene plastic. The product line will feature a broad range of calipers from 6 – 14 mil for a variety of customer applications. Commercial availability is planned for the second quarter of 2014.”

And one other nugget of information:

“Mohawk will also announce a line extension to its Dimensional Product portfolio – a new two-part pocket folder that is HP Indigo compatible and available on three premium Mohawk digital papers. Historically a challenging job, these new pocket folders allow printers to cost effectively and profitably produce short run jobs that may have previously been outsourced.”
