Fresh News Pairs with Fresh Coffee

How about breaking news printed on the sleeve of your takeout coffee cup? (And NO, it’s not Starbucks!)

Gulf News, the leading English newspaper in the United Arab Emirates, teamed up with Tim Hortons to adopt this headline-making concept:

Coffee sleeves are placed in a special device that prints Gulf News tweets (essentially the headline from a breaking news story) and a QR code (that takes you to the full article).

Check out the video below from Y&R MENA, the agency behind this innovative idea. Y&R Dubai won Agency of the Year at Dubai Lynx awards in March. The agency’s victory also included the grand prix in the direct category for the “Headline News Cup Sleeve” campaign.

The stats cited at the end of the video on the effectiveness of the campaign are impressive. Just another great example of print’s versatility!
