2% Discount on 2-D Mobile Barcodes?

Due to the success of last year’s program, the Postal Service intends to file a Notice of Price Adjustment with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) for a 2012 Mobile Commerce and Personalization Promotion.

This would provide mailers with an upfront postage discount (two percent) on qualifying Standard Mail and First-Class Mail letters, flats, and cards that contain a mobile barcode or similar print technology that can be read or scanned by a mobile device.

Different from the previous promotion, the technology used in 2012 must lead the recipient to either:

1. A Web page that allows the recipient to purchase a product or service on a mobile device.
or
2. A personalized URL, which leads to a Web page that is unique to an individual recipient.

If approved, the program would run July 1 through August 31, 2012 with registration beginning May 1, 2012. More details can be found at the USPS website.
