screen foiling

« Back to Glossary Index

screen foiling allows for fine lines

While other technologies use dies, plates or digital print technology to adhere the foil to a printed piece, screen foiling uses mesh screens to determine where the “glue,” or in this case UV coating, should go to create the foil artwork.

A spot UV coating is added to your plain or preprinted sheet representing your foil artwork.

The coating is cured (the print surface is exposed to a bright UV light for a few seconds to dry the coating) and the sheet is then run through the Sakurai screen foiling device, which uses heat and a touch of pressure to adhere the foil to your pre-determined areas.
