foil stamping

This is the application of foil, a special mylar backed material, to paper where a heated die is stamped onto the foil, making it adhere to the surface leaving the design of the die on the paper. Foil stamping can be combined with embossing to create a more striking 3D image.

Just an additional note: I think it is important to know, that with foil stamping there will be no foil applied to the paper surface but only a very thin layer of metal (approx. 4 microns thick). The foil itself is only a carrier that will be released from the paper. Foil stamped paper products can be recyled like every other printed papers.
