It’s a Date!

Neenah Paper

It’s always a treat to receive something beautifully printed on CRANE 100% Cotton Papers. It just looks and feels special.

It’s something that stands out, that begs attention, and that you’ll want to keep. Such is the case with the Neenah Paper 2012 calendar.

“Our intent was to showcase the CRANE Papers using a variety of specialty print processes, encouraging recipients to take notice of the possibilities of fine printing as an effective communication medium,” says Tom Wright, director of advertising and design at Neenah Paper.

Design for Exceptional Papers
Designed by Design Army of Washington, DC, the calendar is printed on CRANE’S LETTRA and CRANE’S CREST Papers. Each month is a separate card, better to highlight the different weights and colors of these two exquisite papers.

While the cards are monthly, the headings change according to seasons. Each card uses different combinations of print processes such as engraving, foil stamping, letterpress, and offset.

All of these print options look extraordinary on both CRANE’S LETTRA and CRANE’S CREST Papers. The whimsical typography styles that represent each of the four seasons are perfect for showing what the papers can do. Fine lines, tiny details, the papers reproduced all the embellishments beautifully.

A Meeting of the Minds
The printer, Contemporary Graphics of Pennsauken, New Jersey, came up with the solution for the stand to hold the cards and the box to deliver the set. Both the box and stand are printed on ENVIRONMENT Folding Board.

A 24 pt. heavyweight option from Neenah Packaging Solutions, this 100 percent postconsumer white packaging board offers extraordinary print performance, in this case offset printing, blind emboss and foil stamping—a great environmental option for high-end packaging.

The size of the calendar also took some thought. It needed to be small enough to sit on a desk, but large enough to not be considered a “promotion” calendar, but a “keeper.”

Collaboration is key on a project like this. With a client in Georgia, a designer in DC, a print production manager in Wisconsin, and a printer in New Jersey, it was important to maintain open lines of communication. And when we look at the finished product, it’s obvious that everyone enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to create something stunning on one of the finest 100 percent cotton papers in the world, CRANE Papers.
