Very Pinterest-ing

Neenah Paper

Walk into any designer’s office or studio, and what do you see? Usually, a wide assortment of samples, cards, notes, promotions, announcements, photos—in a word, stuff. Printed stuff. Hanging on the walls, corkboards, and scattered about.

I think most designers will confess to being a bit of a hoarder when it comes to this sort of thing. But now, there’s an easier, more flexible way to keep track of all those things that we see and like, and sometimes want to share.

Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that currently has more than 11 million unique monthly users, including Neenah Paper. It is a place to share tastes and interests, and connect with others who share those interests.

“We might be a paper company, but we have always found that social media like Facebook and Twitter, and now Pinterest, is a great way to keep in touch with our customers and the creative community as a whole,” says Jamie Saunders, marketing communications manager at Neenah Paper. “Social media is a give and take. By following what designers are into and what they are doing, we can provide inspiration and fresh ideas.”

An Online Scrapbook
Inspiration can come from anywhere, and is not limited to print design. Because people are using Pinterest for all kinds of things, from redecorating to saving recipes, even planning a wedding, the door is wide open to look anywhere and everywhere for ideas.

Think of it as an online scrapbook. Images can be added from websites, or you can upload an image from your computer. A repin is a common practice if you see something you like on another user’s pinboard.

No matter where you get your pins, including repins, they will link back to the original source. This opens your pinboard up to all kinds of possibilities. And the best thing is, unlike a corkboard, you won’t have to overlap items because you’re running out of space!

Inspiration is Everywhere
A look at Neenah’s pinboard will show boards with titles like Paper With Style, Invitations and Calendars, among others. Because of their involvement in the design and print community, they come across a lot of unique and interesting things that designers are doing with paper. So, they will keep adding to their pinboard.

Pinterest is not about paper. It’s about being creative and open to new things. As an industry leader, Neenah Paper has always been among the first to embrace new technologies, virtual swatchbooks, smart phone apps, virtual paper cabinet, online paper calculators, just to name a few.

And now, Neenah has found one more way in which they can be a great resource when it comes to creating unique print communications and other promotional materials.
