Tell Tale Society

Tags for the Tell Tale Preserve Company, a new patisserie and delicatessen in San Francisco, had to be as mouth wateringly good as the confections they adorned. Their scrumptious design from Chen Design Associates just won top honors as PaperSpecs Gallery Design of the Month.

“The vision and passion behind the culinary tastes of Chef William Werner, and his artistry for creating a new spin on the classic tastes of French patisserie were the inspiration for these tags,” explains Josh Chen, principal of Chen Design Associates.

Chef Werner created the Tell Tale Society, which is comprised of people who sign up to receive a bag filled with seasonally influenced preserves, confections, cookies and cakes, both sweet and savory, each month. The tags are used to close and identify the earthy burlap bags that contain the special culinary creations.

The Highlights
“The attention to detail such as the brass eyelet at the top of the tag, the use of overprinting two colors to create additional colors, the textural nature of the letterpress work, the ingenious use of rubber stamping to individualize the tags, and the way the paper delivered on all that was required of it, made these tags a standout,” said Kit Hinrichs of Studio Hinrichs.

Hinrichs, who is a nationally recognized and award-winning designer himself, had the unenviable task of selecting just one winner. The inaugural award was garnered from the top ten entries that received the most online votes from visitors to the recently launched website gallery. Each piece (identities of designer and printer were kept anonymous) was judged based on design, print quality and paper choice.
