Toyota Camry Pop-up Gatefold Insert

If you’re a car company, putting your potential customer “in the driver’s seat” virtually is pretty easy these days, using everything from television commercials and online videos to augmented and virtual reality. But these only allow you to convey the sight and sound of that new car experience. To promote the 2018 Camry, Toyota and their agency Saatchi & Saatchi, with the help of Structural Graphics, pulled the humble automobile ad into the third dimension with a removable insert that not only engages four of the five senses, but also quickens the pulse of anyone who comes in contact with it. This Book is a Camera Pop-up Book

A bit late to say it, perhaps, but I think I want to be Kelli Anderson when I grow up. The self-professed artist/designer/tinkerer is equally at home experimenting with websites and paper. It is this medium-agnostic attitude that’s resulted in interactive projects such as this amazing example of print design inspiration: a pop-up book that also happens to be a working pinhole camera! Painstakingly developed from scratch by the artist and mass-produced by those wizards of dimensional marketing, Structural Graphics, “This is a Camera” is a colorful celebration of paper-folding precision at its best. Nothing gets a party started faster than a well-stocked bar and some great tunes, making Bacardi’s “Real Music Speaker” rum packaging one of the cleverest combos around. That’s right: This box is wired for sound! Designed by our friends at MW Luxury Packaging and Bacardi to hold a bottle of Bacardi’s Carta Negra Superior Black Rum, it features a recycled rigid board substructure wrapped in 100 lb. (157gsm) white art paper and a matte, anti-scratch polypropylene laminate printed CMYK by Best Planner. A slick spot UV gloss varnish makes a number of clever little details pop.
