The Life-saving 'Drinkable' Book

drink_125Paper can educate, paper can inspire, and with a little help from technology, paper can also save one, 10, many lives. This is the lesson learned from The Drinkable Book, a clever piece of in-the-field kit that can help people in the developing world live to see another day.

Created by DDB New York and the charity Water is Life, each page of the 20-page book is actually a water filter that catches 99.99% of the bacteria that causes such water-borne diseases as E. coli, typhoid and cholera. The pages feature tips on using the filters, printed in non-toxic ink on paper coated with silver nanoparticles that kill the bacteria.

The cost to make each book: about $2, including printing.
