Three New Inks for Kodak NexPress

Though Eastman Kodak has had a brutal summer with massive job cuts and management shakeups tied to its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring, it’s been making jaws drop at this year’s trade shows thanks to its NexPress Digital Production Color Platform.

That’s due in large part to its new Gold, Pearlescent and Neon Pink dry inks, which use Fifth Imaging Unit Solutions technology. The Gold and Pearlescent inks each incorporate a metallic sparkle effect that enhances the process colors underneath. Both also provide an interesting alternative to pearlized paper in that you can increase or decrease the overall pearl/glimmer effect in different areas of the page.

The Neon Pink expands on the standard “highlighter” effect in that it can be used to enhance images when used in a five-color process, and creates a varied palette when added to other colors.

These options, combined with the press’ new 36” maximum capability announced at this year’s Drupa show, adds large posters and book jackets to the list of direct mail and other materials the NexPress can handle.

These offerings are expected to be available in the U.S. by the end of October; PaperSpecs will keep you posted on further developments.
