Cool Designs of the Week

Kat Von D figure packagingEvery week we see something that makes our jaw drop, our heart “squee,” or our debit card burn (another) hole in our pocket. This week: student-designed packaging for a limited edition toy marketed under the name of a TV tattooist. Really. Designed by Brooklyn’s MeiCheng Wang, the top of this intricate ebony pyramid of awesome is exquisitely laser cut and holds the rest of the container closed. When lifted, four triangular flaps fall open revealing the treasure inside: a limited edition KidRobot customizable figure.

The design of this packaging, from the toy to the box itself, is done in the style of Kat Von D, as if the LA Ink star/fashion franchise herself had licensed it. Which she hasn’t. As far as we can tell. (We can’t get past the packaging long enough to care.)
