Take Note Award Winner: Napkinisms

NEWS – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kathrin Blatter and Andrew Johnson, partners at Un-, select Napkinisms as PaperSpecs Gallery Take Note Award Winner for Quarter Four 2013.

The unconventional magazine is a collaboration of Flash Reproductions and WAX Partnership Inc. and features words of inspiration from many of today’s most notable designers.

Palo Alto, California – February 25, 2014 – “It was a tough choice, but ultimately the piece that challenged the norm won over the others,” says Kathrin Blatter of San Francisco-based design agency Un-. “Napkinisms awoke my curiosity the most.”

Blatter and partner Andrew Johnson served as guest judges for PaperSpecs Gallery Take Note Award and selected Napkinisms, the seventh issue of Wayward Arts magazine, as the winner for Quarter Four 2013.

“The lo-fi, universal napkin is a great format to quickly express diverse, creative thoughts. That, coupled with bright fluorescent orange fold-outs and embossing techniques made this piece exciting and fun to explore,” explains Johnson.

The magazine is part of a monthly publishing venture called Wayward Arts, the brainchild of Toronto, Ontario printing company Flash Reproductions. Each month Flash Reproductions selects a different award-winning Canadian design studio to create the magazine of their dreams. The collaboration gives both the printer and the guest designers a chance to show off their best work and most creative thinking.

With the theme of community as a starting point, WAX Partnership designed Napkinisms and solicited words of inspiration and wisdom from many of today’s most talented designers. The thoughts and doodles received from creative greats like Debbie Millman, Stefan Sagmeister, Gary Taxali, Sean Adams, and James Victore became the content.
