Ink is ink, right? Th-INK again.
The newest Finch Paper promotional sample, Ink, demonstrates how various types of inks can become the key design element in your next printing project - especially when using uncoated Finch Fine Text & Cover.
The 28-page, oversized publication utilizes a variety of innovative inking techniques to display stunning photographs of today's most popular "ink" - tattoos in every shape, size and complexity.
When combined with Finch Fine's superior, ultra-smooth surface and impeccable formation, the result is a look and feel you may have never thought possible with uncoated paper.
What's more, Ink is far from just glitz and glamour. It's a tutorial for designers and printers, with detailed production notes and print-perfect tips for maximizing the vibrancy and eye-worthiness of your next printed piece. It can be ordered online at www.finchpaper.com.
Finch Fine Text & Cover offers designers an ideal canvas "Ink can be a very powerful and effective design tool," says Rob DeLuke, creative director & graphic resources manager for manufacturer Finch, Pruyn & Co. Inc. "And with Finch Fine as your canvas, the impact is all the more impressive. Our goal with this promotional sample is not only to show off our paper, but to provide a guide for making ink and Finch Fine work wonders for you."
The showcase begins on the cover, where what appears to be foil stamping is actually a lower-cost special effect created by hitting the ink with two coats each of aqueous coating and a clear UV laminate. From there, the fountain of ink techniques flows fast and furious:
- Thermochromic (color-changing) inks change from orange to yellow when exposed to heat or simply rubbed for a few seconds under your thumb
- UV inks vs. Conventional inks. UV inks bring heightened clarity and color to the printed page
- Halftones, duotones, tri-tones and four-color process printing are presented side-by-side, demonstrating the subtle, yet meaningful differences that can be achieved solely by ink selection when presenting a black-and-white image
- Simple replacement of a PMS color for a less vibrant process color intensifies the color without pushing ink densities so that they begin to plug the image
- Fluorescent additives brighten process inks and boost intensity and saturation of color
- Super-pigmented inks, applied in just one pass, give you the same rich, deep color that normally requires two off-line passes
- A variety of varnishes and coatings are presented across one eye-catching image, demonstrating the reality of how varnishes and coatings actually reproduce on Finch Fine or any uncoated surface
- A classic glow-in-the-dark effect is achieved through the use of UV inks and varnishes to seal in a "glowing" phosphor powder
- A new generation "rub & smell" technique brings the true scent of roses to the printed page, through the conventional application of printing microencapsulated oils
- Hi-fi printing expands the color range, with four-process color, plus green, blue and orange, backed up by an innovative digital prepress process
