Mill: Gruppo Cordenons

When the team at Gruppo Cordenons decided to showcase their many fine products, they chose a theme that would express both their quality and distinctiveness.

Their goal was to produce a piece that was a useful tool and also something fun that their audience would want to keep and they could continue to add to throughout the year.

As with their "Buon Appetito" cookbook promotion last year that was so well received, it was decided the theme this time would be Italian wines and printing techniques to demonstrate the exceptional printability of Cordenons papers.

But . so many unique papers, fine Italian wines and countless printing techniques was a dilemma. The team came up with the idea of a small notebook and a series of inserts that can be added to the books. They chose an innovative disk binding system (www.myndology.com) that allows the inserts to be added into the binding.

A successful blend of paper, print and wine
While the front and back covers of the notebooks present a different Cordenons product such as Astrosilver, Bakri, Plike and Stardream, the back covers display six different quotes and photos pertaining to wine. The inserts will each be a different Italian wine with a different printing technique and each insert will be printed on three different Cordenons products for comparison.

The thermography process beautifully enhanced the first of the inserts for their choice of Prosecco as the Italian wine. Prosecco is a sparkling wine so they used gold holographic glitter thermography to make the bubbles "sparkle."

The image on the inserts was printed waterless on a Presstek digital press and for the first set of inserts, three of Gruppo Cordenons' papers with their unique finishes and textures are showcased. Canaletto is uncoated and has a cotton content, Plike (plastic-like) has a unique tactile feel and matte finish and Stardream is metallic and shimmering.

It's a great way to compare finishes and textures when you can see the same image and technique on three different sheets. Upcoming inserts will have letterpress, foil stamping, embossing and other cool processes.
