Paper Magic of Bovey Lee

cut_125Nothing’s more likely to make you feel like an utter “dabbler” in the paper arts than glimpsing the work of the real deal: someone who makes the material sing. Pittsburgh’s Bovey Lee is one of those people who can transform a single sheet of Chinese xuan (rice) paper into a world of detail and wonder.

As Visual News explains, “Her recent pieces feature dense frameworks of plant life, interspersed with the creations of the human world – a contrast she continues to explore.”

No stencils here, no rulers. Just an X-acto knife and the skill and vision to transform paper into an intricate exploration of the world, and our place in it.
