Hot off the press! Neenah Paper has just released another in its popular Ample Sample series, this one a collection of commercial reprints of real world pocket folders.
The samples give designers and printers a chance to see real world examples of some of the unique ways Neenah’s premium papers are used.
The carrier folder itself, printed on a rich OXFORD 130 lb. duplex cover, is a tactile exploration using embossing, foil stamping, diecuts and sewing, a stunning example of how color and texture can make a folder special.
It’s an ideal design for a folder that requires increased capacity to hold heavier materials. The sturdy gusseted pocket contains six folders, from different types of businesses, showcasing a variety of weights, colors and textures.
For example, like the carrier folder, a folder for Target Stores demonstrates the value of using a heavyweight cover. And with the added heft of a double fold cover, this is a folder meant to carry a lot of material.
But texture and color are the stars of this promotion, and it’s obvious that both were an important consideration in the design of the folders. The simplest folder in the portfolio is a two-pocket folder, printing in one color. It might not sound like much, but when that one color is printed on ESSE Cover in Pearlized Cocoa, the result is dramatic, elegant.
The ESSE Papers palette includes eight pearlized colors in both smooth finish and a soft grid pattern. CLASSIC Linen provides a crisp finish for three pearl finish papers, and STARWHITE Papers boast four dramatic Flash Colors.
Sometimes a textured finish can be used to enhance an image of something textural. One example is the crafted finish of CLASSIC Laid as the backdrop for a photograph of burlap on one folder cover. The folder itself is of a unique construction, including a kiss-cut on the spine to avoid the fiber lift that sometimes occurs with a laid finish.
A Diverse Portfolio
One folder was created by Neenah Paper as a demonstration of just how far they could push the fiber in the paper when it comes to embossing. The SUNDANCE Felt finish was obviously the perfect test case. The sculptured registered emboss is extraordinary. The paper color choice of Harvest Yellow was an important consideration as well, adding warmth to the 4-color image.
And speaking of color, the refined look of embossing and rich brown ink on a real estate folder constructed of CLASSIC CREST Paper in Celery makes this folder memorable and impressive. And sometimes, with a paper like CLASSIC COLUMNS Red Pepper/CLASSIC CREST Solar White duplex cover, clean design and a foil-stamped logo are all you need.
“This collection of folders serves as an effective model to demonstrate techniques, printing and craftsmanship, while communicating the value of using Neenah’s selection of cover weights,” says Kristin Carpenter, advertising and design manager for Neenah Paper. “The paper chosen for a presentation or pocket folder is as important as what’s on the inside. Our brands of papers, offering a wide selection of textures and colors, can make your message more beautiful and more noticeable as the paper essentially becomes part of the design itself.”
