PaperSpecs “Managing Critical Color” Webinar

July 1, 2010
2:00 p.m. Eastern (11:00 a.m. Pacific)

In the second free Webinar of their special series on color, PaperSpecs and Sappi Fine Paper will address the critical issues surrounding effective color management.

Palo Alto, California – June 17, 2010 – When a designer opens a file, does it look like what the photographer saw through her lens? And when a printer brings in the press approval sheet, will it look like what the designer envisioned?

The challenge of managing color is as old as print itself. But digital technology has added new wrinkles in the attempt to control the effect of ink on paper.

“What’s different now is the extent to which designers and printers can affect color. With the click of a mouse, it’s possible to turn a blue dress red and adjust hues pixel by pixel,” says Daniel Dejan, North American ETC Print and Creative Manager for Sappi Fine Paper/North America and featured speaker at PaperSpecs’ upcoming “Managing Critical Color” Webinar.

So why care about color management? Because it will impact the quality of the images reproduced and influence whether time is lost and added expenses are incurred.

“This Webinar is about optimizing your color management workflow so you can avoid costly pitfalls,” says Sabine Lenz, CEO of PaperSpecs. “And Daniel Dejan’s extensive experience and background make him the perfect person to show us where most print challenges occur and how to address these critical areas.”

Some of the topics Dejan will discuss are:

  • anticipating paper’s impact on color
  • working with photographers regarding image capture requirements and retouching, profiles and archiving for repurposing
  • using Photoshop to set working space and image profiles
  • managing critical colors: product replication, corporate identity, branding
  • tools of the trade for accurate color viewing
  • proper workflow for releasing files

This Webinar, created for the intermediate to advanced level graphic designer, art director, production manager, print buyer and project manager, will focus on a step-by-step review and discussion of the issues that influence the ability to optimize your color management workflow.

Second in a special series on color, the “Managing Critical Color” Webinar is free thanks to the generous support of Sappi Fine Paper. Space is limited, so reserve your seat today for this special event at www.paperspecs.com/webinar.

All attendees will be sent a complimentary copy of  “The Standard 2,” Sappi’s 50-page plus cover spiral-bound technical guide on managing color. Those who register for “Managing Critical Color” by midnight Sunday, June 27, 2010 (and provide an accurate mailing address) should receive the guide in time for the Webinar. While every attempt will be made to ensure a timely delivery, it cannot be guaranteed.
