International Paper
International Paper has launched Printer’s Playbook at PrintersPlaybook.com, as well as through various social media platforms. Printer’s Playbook is a new educational and informational series that features videos and content geared towards educating commercial printers, designers and merchants on a wide array of printing topics.
The Game Plan
The focus of this series is to provide printers and designers with expert solutions and advice for common issues they often encounter.
For example, did you know it has been estimated that approximately 60 to 70 percent of all customer files have issues that can cause press delays? The first episode in the Printer’s Playbook series, entitled “Creative to Prepress,” covers 10 tips that will help designers efficiently send files to their commercial printers with speed and success.
These tips are compatible with both MACs and PCs. Here’s a sampling of the great advice you’ll find:
Preflight: You can run Preflighting, and it will check your files for fonts, images, colors, etc. Anything that is a miss will be pointed out. Always print SEPARATION proofs for yourself and the printer. If you are uploading via a FTP account, save the separation proofs as a PDF file for them to print out. Once the folder is created, it is all set to be burned onto a disk or sent to the printer via FTP.
Opening Your Playbook
All videos and educational information will be easily accessible at PrintersPlaybook.com and on various social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and through a YouTube Channel.
The videos will feature tips and advice from industry expert and retired International Paper Graphic Arts & Printing Scientist, Jim Kohler. The topics for Printer’s Playbook were determined after extensive interviews with general commercial printers. This series is part of International Paper’s initiative to be a valued business partner that provides tools for success to support the general commercial printing industry.
The next don’t-miss installment is “When Offset? When Digital?” Jim will cover the differences between digital and offset printing technology. He’ll walk you through a couple of print jobs and the things to consider such as quality, printing substrate, color, turnaround and customization. He will also discuss tradeoffs and ways that both digital and offset can be used together to minimize cost and maximize impact, while keeping a mindful eye on a project’s budget.
So if you want to be the first to know about this and all new episodes, be sure to ‘Subscribe,’ ‘Like’ or ‘Follow’ International Paper’s Printer’s Playbook.
