Mohawk Fine Papers
Focused on the road to overall wellbeing, Casting for Recovery (CFR) guides women with breast cancer through their recovery process by teaching them the therapeutic technique of fly fishing.
The motion of fly casting exercises the soft muscle tissue damaged by radiation and surgery, and the training brings breast cancer survivors together during two-day retreats to share experiences and provide emotional support for one another.
From a small beginning in 1996, CFR now provides a national network of retreats, and has spawned programs in Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, so that women all over the world have access to the therapeutic value the program creates through community and fly fishing.
The Fundraising Brochure
In an effort to expand their programs to serve the hundreds of survivors who are turned away each year, CFR has embarked on a development campaign spearheaded by a beautifully produced fundraising brochure printed on Mohawk Options, Vellum, 100% PC White.
The book was designed by Dave Van de Water, Mohawk’s director of product and market development and printed by Finlay Printing in Bloomfield, Connecticut. The selection of Mohawk Options Vellum was an obvious choice according to Van de Water.
“The look and feel of the piece had to reflect the focus on health and renewal that is the hallmark of Casting for Recovery’s work. The lush, natural feel of Options Vellum was perfect for that. And because CFR has a commitment to conservation and teaches catch-and-release techniques, using a 100 percent postconsumer recycled paper made with windpower was a requirement. But most of all, the paper had to print like crazy. I knew that Option’s Inxwell surface was the only choice for the subject matter.”
The imagery was a combination of candids from CFR retreats and large format landscapes shot by noted outdoor photographers Val Atkinson, Brian O’Keefe and Barry and Cathy Beck.
Van de Water adds, “Because many of the images were snapshots, we had to insure that the paper would produce the highest ink density possible so the images would print crisply and vividly. Finlay did a wonderful job color correcting the photos, and the unique surface of Options made them literally leap off the page. The combination of the rich vellum finish and the ink holdout of Inxwell elevated the piece to something special.”
Mohawk Options, Vellum, 100% PC White is a recent addition to the Options line. Samples and information can be found at www.mohawkpaper.com.
