With paper efficiencies as the theme of this premiere issue, the guide shows how cost, quality and sustainability are tied to paper selection. Basis weight, brightness, whiteness, stiffness and opacity are discussed. Bulk-to-weight comparisons of coated and uncoated papers are also analyzed.
One example Domtar cites is a possible savings by switching from coated to uncoated paper: “For example, take an 8.5 x 11 four-page cover brochure. If the paper is 100 lb. gloss cover with a caliper of 8.5 and a weight of 1.16 oz., switching to Lynx Opaque Ultra Cover with a caliper of 8.8 and a weight of .748 oz. yields a savings of 35 percent in weight, or $0.23 per piece.”
